Music lovers will flock to hear Birds of a Feather, as the sensational Twelfth Night Ensemble (directors David Belkovski and Rachell Ellen Wong) returns with fortepiano soloist Yi-heng Yang in a joyful program where classical music takes flight in a jovial, sublime and celebration of avian life. From the “Chicken” Symphony no. 83 of Haydn, (French: La poule), whose nickname comes from the clucking second subject in the first movement, which sounds like the jerky back-and-forth head motion of a walking hen, to Mozart’s magnificent and Piano Concerto no. 17 K 453, whose Allegretto Theme and Variations uses a theme Mozart wrote down from his beloved pet starling, birdsongs, wit and playfulness abound in the hands of these leading period instrument performers.
