About the performance

The Maude Adams Theater Hub and the Hunter Synagogue present The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the Pulitzer Prize winning play based on the diary entries of Anne Frank during World War II. The Diary of Anne Frank is the stage adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary, which was published posthumously in 1947. The play, adapted by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett and published in 1955, follows a young Jewish girl and her family during the Nazi Occupation of Amsterdam. Anne and her family lived in hiding, in the attic of an associate, for fear of persecution due to their Jewish identities. All the while Anne, then only 13, kept a journal as an escape. She writes of hope, despair, identity, and love.

This production is directed by Beth Troxell, an experienced director and co-founder of Round The Bend Theater Company. Troxell’s vision is to immerse the audience in this intense play and provide perspective and hope to the community. Partnering with producer Jake Shipley of the Maude Adams Theater Hub, this play will draw from many of the local and talented actors who frequent the MATH and RTB stages.

This production stars Avery Kashman as Anne Frank, Laila Monsen as Margot Frank, Brian Flynn as Mr. Frank, and Michelle Jenab as Mrs. Frank. This production will also feature regional favorites like Rick Meyers, Katrina Lantz, Bill Solely, Mia Barbuto, Roger Dapiran, and more.

The Hunter Synagogue, which will serve as the stage for this production, is a historical building in Hunter and has been a home for Jewish worship for over 100 years. Originally constructed sometime between 1909 and 1914, the building was recognized by the National Register for Historic Places in 1999. With original stained glass windows and wooden interior, this holy space provides a warm and inviting presence to an otherwise heavy production.
