The Academy of Fortepiano Performance International Fortepiano Salon #7 features highlights from the August 24-29, 2021 summer workshop at the Catskill Mountain Foundationís Piano Performance Museum in Hunter, New York.
The Academy of Fortepiano Performance opened with a concert on August 24 at the Doctorow Center for the Arts by the cofounders Audrey Axinn, Maria Rose, and Yi-heng Yang playing works by Beethoven, Dussek, and Schumann. During the week, young professionals immersed themselves in master classes, lessons, and recording opportunities on fortepianos from the 18th and 19th centuries. Pianos available during the residency included some of the museumís valuable original instruments, such as the Clementi square piano (1803), the recently-acquired Conrad Graf piano (1826), two Broadwood grand pianos (mid 19th c.), a Pleyel pianino (1840) and a grand piano by Erard FrŤres (1873), as well as replicas of Anton Walter pianos (1780s-90s).
The Academy culminated in a final concert by Isaac Foreman, Patricia Garcia Gill, Hilda Huang, Julian Jenson, Robin Morace, Stephanie Schmidt, Piaowen Tian, Angie Zhang, and Fengming Zhang, performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, and Viardot.
Salon #7 of the International Salon Series will show excerpts from the concerts and some of the lecture-recitals by participants. Audrey Axinn, Maria Rose, and Yi-heng Yang, as well as some of the participants, will describe their experiences and the importance of playing and performing on these instruments, using images and photos of special moments during the workshop. Salon #7ís spectacular highlights memorialize a special time of fortepiano study in the Catskill Mountains.†
The Academy of Fortepiano Performance is funded in part by donations from private individuals and the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation.
