Back by popular demand, Labyrinth Baroque presents a staged story-in-a-story – a dramatic evening set in a night at the theater in turn-of-the-eighteenth-century London. The characters vie for affection and applause in a world where orange-sellers in the aisles carry flirtatious messages between box seats and into the wings. Featuring songs and instrumental numbers by Henry Purcell and John Eccles, and accompanied by lutes, baroque violins, recorders, and triple harp.
Now in its fourth summer at the Catskill Mountain Foundation, Labyrinth Baroque delights audiences with its mixture of florid virtuosity and comedy, solidly grounded on authoritative scholarship and a thorough command of historical performance practice. Led by Richard Kolb (Music Director) and Tracy Cowart (Stage Director), the ensemble brings to life the ravishing beauty and wry wit of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century chamber music on period instruments.
