You donít have to be born in the Piedmont region of North Carolina to feel the music in your blood. For Dom Flemons, it all began with a PBS documentary about the history of rock and roll. ďThere was an episode on the folk music revival that got me wanting to do it,Ē he explains. ďAt the time, Dylan albums were inexpensive so I started buying them. From there, I read about the folk scene in New York City and I tried to do that in Phoenix. I began busking and playing in coffee houses.Ē

Dom likes to use the traditional forms of music he has heard and immersed himself in over the years to create new soundscapes that generate interest in old-time folk music. Focusing on creating music that is rooted in history but taking a contemporary approach, Dom hopes to reexamine what traditional music can become.
