Philosophy Sugar Maples' Fine Arts Camp strives to maintain an atmosphere where students who want to learn may do so in an environment which encourages creativity and recognizes the importance of the individual. Students are accepted at whatever their proficiency level may be and are encouraged to grow. Faculty and staff strive to motivate campers and share with them the joy of achievement in the fine arts. Enthusiasm is contagious at Sugar Maples' as campers discover, learn, experience, and succeed.
Sugar Maples' Days Campers begin their day at approximately 10:00 am by getting dropped off at the Sugar Maples office for camper pick-up by faculty and staff. Mornings are filled with classes and rehearsals. After lunch, students have individual practice or rest time. Afternoon classes and rehearsals end at 4:00 pm.
Your Counselor Sugar Maples' counseling staff is comprised primarily of college students majoring in the arts and/or education. The counseling staff supervises campers throughout the day, including all meals, recreation, and activities. They also assist faculty with class preparation and plan group activities for students. All of our staff members strive to make each camper's experience at camp fun, safe, worthwhile, and memorable.
Teachers Sugar Maples' faculty members come from universities, colleges, professional ensembles, and private and public schools from around the country. They serve as motivators and role-models for the campers by teaching artistry, discipline, and appreciation of formal study. In addition to instructing small and large group classes, faculty members regularly demonstrate mastery of their craft through exhibition and performance in concert, master class, studio demonstration, and recital settings.
Scholarship Program Sugar Maples' Scholarship Program offers students in all arts programs an opportunity to apply for financial assistance toward their camp tuition. Aid is also available for gifted campers whose family income would otherwise prevent participation at Sugar Maples. To request a scholarship application, call Fran Imperiale at 518-263-2073 or 518-734-4699 (June - September).
Global Arts Exploration Programs Global Arts Exploration Studio encompasses a variety of art activities that may include painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and will provide students with exposure to a diversity of materials and techniques. Although the emphasis is on a cultural approach to the arts, the basics of art structure and arrangement such as line, shape value, texture, pattern, space and color will be stressed. This approach to arts education is designed to give young artists a more comprehensive experience in the arts, and an increased multi-cultural awareness. It also establishes the creative arts as an important tool for learning. By studying approaches and techniques from around the world, students can explore issues of who we are, the world in which we live, and our ability to interpret creatively those things important to us.
