PHILOSOPHY
Sugar Maples' Fine Arts Camp strives to maintain an atmosphere where students who
want to learn may do so in an environment which encourages creativity and recognizes
the importance of the individual. Students are accepted at whatever their proficiency
level may be and are encouraged to grow. Faculty and staff strive to motivate campers
and share with them the joy of achievement in fine arts. Enthusiasm is contagious at
Sugar Maples our campers discover, learn, experience and succeed.
SUGAR MAPLES DAYS
Campers begin their day at approximately 10:00 AM by getting dropped off at the Sugar
Maples office for camper pick-up by faculty and staff. Mornings are filled with classes
and rehearsals. After lunch, students participate in individual practice or rest time.
Afternoon classes and rehearsals end at 4:00 PM.
YOUR COUNSELOR
Sugar Maples counseling staff is comprised of educators. The counseling staff
supervises campers throughout the day, including all meals, recreation and activities.
They assist with class preparation and plan group activities for students. All of our staff
members strive to make each camper's experience fun, safe, worthwhile and memorable.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Sugar Maples' Scholarship Program offers students an opportunity to apply for financial
assistance toward their camp tuition. Aid is available for campers whose family income
would otherwise prevent participation at Sugar Maples.
GLOBAL ARTS EXPLORATION PROGRAMS
Global Arts Exploration Studio encompasses a variety of art activities that may include
painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and will provide students with exposure to
a diversity of materials and techniques. Although the emphasis is on a cultural approach
to the arts, the basics of art structure and arrangement such as line, shape value, texture,
pattern, space and color will be stressed. This approach to arts education is designed to
give young artists a more comprehensive experience in the arts, and an increased
multi-cultural awareness. It also establishes the creative arts as an important tool for
learning.
By studying approaches and techniques from around the world, students can explore
issues of who we are, the world in which we live, and our ability to interpret creatively
those things important to us.
DRAMA: LET THE PLAY BEGIN
Each summer, Sugar Maples concludes the season with a magnificent performance.
Campers take part in the performances by participating in activities such as mask
making, set design, costuming, choreography, script writing and prop making. These
events are the culmination of joyous work by many campers, in the name of theater.
We understand theater is not for all so if a camper chooses not to participate they can
fill the time working on other projects.
