Tuition Assistance

Apprenticeship Program for High School and College Students

Based on the concept of the Master/Apprentice relationship that has characterized training in the arts for many centuries, young people are invited to apply for the program by providing the general application form accompanied by a 1-page personal statement detailing:

  • the medium in which the apprenticeship is requested
  • how they anticipate this experience to be beneficial to them
  • what they can contribute to the Sugar Maples community

This statement should be accompanied by:

  • two letters of reference
  • a résumé
  • up to 10 slides or digital prints of recent artwork.

Those awarded will have the opportunity to study one-on-one with faculty members. Students will be allowed to participate in classes offered by their mentors during the Summer 2008 Season free of charge, and will have the opportunity to receive feedback and instruction outside of class, in exchange for twelve hours per week of help with department responsibilities, studio upkeep and classroom assistance. Preference will be given to students living within a 65-mile radius of Sugar Maples. Transportation and housing will be the responsibility of the student. Due by May 1, 2008.

 

Local Stand-By

Offered to residents of Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster counties who take spaces in unfilled classes. Qualifying students may request stand-by for any class and will be notified in advance if space is available. Applications should include the general application form plus:

  • proof of residency
  • a letter explaining the applicant's desire to take a particular class; how theexperience will serve other areas of their life, etc.
  • a résumé
  • optional: image(s) of past work
  • optional: letter(s) of reference

 

Art Educator Scholarships

Offered to art teachers who come to Sugar Maples looking to learn a new skill that can be passed on to their students. Preference given to teachers within a 65-mile radius of Maplecrest. Please send the general application form plus:

  • a letter explaining the applicant's desire to take a particular class; how the experience will serve other areas of their life, etc.
  • a résumé
  • optional: image(s) of past work
  • optional: letter(s) of reference

 

Matriculated College Student Scholarships

In addition to the automatic 20% discount offered with proof of college enrollment, scholarships covering partial to full tuition may be awarded to matriculated college students. Please send the general application form plus:

  • most recent report card
  • a letter explaining the applicant's desire to take a particular class; how the experience will serve other areas of their life, etc.
  • a résumé
  • one teacher recommendation
  • up to 10 images of past work

 

Youth Scholarships

Offered to distinguished students ages 5 - 14. Preference given to students within a 65-mile radius of Maplecrest. Due by May 24, 2008. Please send the general application form plus:

  • a 1-2 paragraph statement (which can be written by a parent)
  • a copy of the most recent report card/evaluation
  • one teacher recommendation
