Taking advantage of Sugar Maples' beautiful Catskill Mountain location, an ideal place to study the techniques of plein air painting, this workshop offers students an opportunity to
develop fluency in alla prima oil painting techniques. In delightful outdoor settings, the classes will offer instruction in application techniques for creating luscious painterly surfaces, palette choice (naturalistic vs. expressionistic), and the use of color mixing for both expression and description of atmospheric effects and light shade. The brushes, pigments, mediums and other materials suited to working wet into wet will also be discussed. Throughout the workshop individual attention will be provided, allowing each person to express his/her own unique style, and students will be offered opportunities to take their subjects from reference materials as well as directly from nature. In case of rain we will work in the studio.
