Modern Digital Landscape Imaging

Studio Course

Note: This course has been offered in the past and is provided for informational purposes only.

Modern Digital Landscape Imaging

This course takes advantage of current methods and technologies to explore image making beyond the limitations of film photography. We will pursue the creation of pictures from nature that builds on the history of humans making representative images of landscape and it s details from the prehistoric to the eclipse of wet cameras. Over the life of the course we will attempt to resolve many of the conventions that film photographers used to address the optical, chemical and physical aspects of light and nature.

We will explore using panoramic gridding not just to create wider field of view but to build grids of selective focus to address problems that were formerly solved with perspective control. We will explore making HDR (high dynamic range) images to deal with scenes whose
exposure latitude exceeds our sensors or film. We will explore Focus bracketing and very high speed flash sync. More than just discovering and exploiting the capabilities of new technologies, we will seek and attempt to create an aesthetic that fits our means.
