May 2008 - My Walk with Rodger

The trail is well marked, steep in several spots, but stone steps carved into the hillside won't cause any healthy person with normal balance much of a problem. That, however, does not describe Rodger. To compensate, he took two cross-country ski poles along for support. The sight of Rodger with those skinny poles scrambling up some of early parts is still with me. "This won't last," I thought, but since he was doing OK and was leveling out, I scooted off trail to climb behind a small waterfall, where I got this shot of moss-covered rock that looks like a bear's profile.
