The Windham Chapter of the Catskill Mountain Foundation is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit grants-based organization, founded in 2003 by a group of committed second-home owners inspired to preserve and enrich life on the mountaintop.

Determined to make a difference, our goal is to expand people's horizons and possibilities by funding programs, projects and community initiatives in education, recreation and the arts.

Education
We've raised more than $1.2 million to support education in Windham. Projects include facade and capital improvements to Windham Ashland Jewett Central School (WAJ), a new library, classroom computers, a distance learning center, college schlarships, field trips, teacher mentoring, after-school enrichment initiatives, and the summer reading program at the Windham Library.

Recreation
Our Chapter has provided over a half million dollars for recreation in our community. We were the lead sponsor for the Windham World Cup Bike event, drawing world-class cyclists and thousands of tourists to Windham. We've funded new athletic fields, playground and sports equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, the WAJ gymnasium, Little League scoreboard, field trips to Yankee Stadium, and uniforms for soccer and mountain biking teams. And granted funds for fun yaks, sewing machines, and outdoor equipment for Girls Quest.

Arts
Working to become a performing arts destination, the Windham Chapter has helped to make this dream a reality. The Windham Chamber Music Festival, with funding from the Windham Chapter, brings four major concerts to our mountaintop each year. Scholarship funding allows more than 70 local children to attend the Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts summer camp. We purchased new lighting for the Civic Centre and sponsored several Sandcastle Contests, a performance by the Schoharie Creek Players, and a concert and workshop by the Japanese Taiko Drummers.

Community Initiatives
Besides granting funds to build the Windham Food Pantry, we've supported the VFW Building restoration project, the Civil War Historical Encampment and Concert, and Friends of the Animals' neutering program. We purchased new radio and emergency equipment for the Windham Hose Company, diagnostic equipment for the Windham Family Medical Practice, and computers, cameras, and indexing equipment for our local Historical Societies.
