Shoot from the HipAn Improvisational Filmmaking Intensive in the CatskillsDates: August 4-August 11, 2010 Shoot from the Hip is an improvisational filmmaking intensive. Exploring film through comprehensive instruction in improvisation, story development, directing, cinematography, sound, and editing, each student will gain practical filmmaking skills, complete their own digital film short, and collaborate on the films of other students. Improvisation has been a method of creating stories on film since the beginning of film history. From the silent era to the work of independent filmmakers like John Cassavetes and Robert Altman to mainstream Hollywood comedies, improvisation has been an approach to filmmaking that puts spontaneity, discovery, and collaboration first. With Shoot from the Hip, students will learn the fundamentals of improvisation and how to apply those skills to creative narrative films. No prior experience necessary.
