Dining Out

Finding that perfect meal for whatever you’re craving is as simple as a click away when you use MenuExplorer.com, the newest addition to the Internet’s vast array of restaurant directory sites. The easy to search database contains over 650,000 restaurants all over the United States, as well as an events calendar to check out the latest happenings around town or away from home.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that when a Web site says that it’s easy to use, many times that claim is predicated on the assumption that the average person has, at least, a base knowledge of how to use the Internet. As a regular user, I sometimes forget that using the World Wide Web can be, for some people, a frustrating and mystifying experience. So, to test MenuExplorer.com’s ease, I invited an elderly neighbor over for coffee and an Internet session. Said neighbor is very entrenched in the Old Way of doing things, and to him, this whole World Wide Web thing is a fad (I believe the words “new-fangled” and “you kids” were thrown around a bit), and I had to go as far as to bribe him with some homemade zucchini bread to get him to even agree to this little experiment.
The results? Even for someone with no prior Internet experience and who is resistant to the whole Web thing in general, MenuExplorer.com is simple to use and will help you make your dining decisions with great ease. Once we established our location, we performed a wide variety of searches, finding restaurants in our area by name, cuisine and even a specific menu item (“pumpkin” for me, good ole’ “steak” for him) in lots of different combinations.
After practicing some searches, we clicked on the restaurant we wanted more information on, and found a map and driving directions, a list of amenities, and even a sample menu! We went a bit further and found some Halloween events in our area: my neighbor wasn’t much interested in any of these, but I certainly found a lot of parties to shake my groove thang at during my favorite season of the year.
A couple of things you should know: You can, of course, always use MenuExplorer.com without registering, but if you do become a registered user (membership is free), you can save your favorite restaurants, menus and events, and have them pop up immediately every time you log onto the site and sign in.
If you own a restaurant, you can sign up (for free!) for a basic listing, which includes restaurant name, address, phone number, cuisine type and driving directions. You can even post upcoming events on the events calendar. Several upgrade packages are available as well.
