July 2002 - Spellbinding Landscapes
Sunset at the Clove
Photo by Gary Kitchen & John Hayes
Here it is not the sun but the shadows on the snow that create a memorable image. This is an archetypal winter scene, with the upright lines of the bare brown trees providing a strong focus for the spreading blue lines below. It is a clear day. One can feel the sharp, cold air following what must have been a storm that left patches of snow on the leaves of the pine tree. There are no footsteps in the snow, not even the photographer’s, so we have a sense of pristine nature newly discovered. back to July 2002
