Catskills from Mohonk Mountain House

Photo by Gary Kitchen & John Hayes

If we were going to give a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh prize, we would have chosen the next four photographs. Here we see a dramatic view of a lovely flower garden through what seems to be an opening of a cave-like arch. We, the viewers, are on the inside looking out at the panorama. Although there is a cloud cover in the visible sky, the sun shines on the flowers and the rocky edge of the opening. This creates a sense of drama that gives a special character to the photograph.
