Lower West Kill River
Our second prize goes to this unusual photograph of a stream splashing through what seems to be an opening in a monumental rock. The curving lines on the surface of the rock convey a sense of great age and give us a feeling that we are in touch with the primeval forces of nature. The diagonal movement of the stream heightens the drama of the scene, and the foaming waters seem to echo the stratification on the ancient stone. back to July 2002
