At the summit of Hunter Mountain is a life-size sculpture carved from an 8-ton block of local bluestone into the visage of ‘’ole Rip at the moment he awakens and finds himself twenty years older! Sculptors Kevin Van Hentenryck and David Slutzky begain their work of art in 1995 with the carving taking place during Hunter Mountain’s Summer Festivals. To date, thousands of people have followed the carving process and watched the sculpture progress. As you read this caption, the carving is complete. A “Completion” Reception for this fabulous work of art is planned for October 12, 2009 at 2 pm, at Hunter Mountain with a rain date of October 17, 2009 at 2 pm.
