My Favorite Beatle: John Lennonwith Carolyn BennettDate: Saturday, October 9, Noon-1:00 pm
On October 9, 2010, John Lennon would have been 70 years old. Artist, musician, activist, and philosopher (of sorts), we can only imagine what Lennon would have contributed to the world had he lived. This is our homage to our favorite Beatle. We hope you'll join us on John's 70th birthday as we look back on his life and times, and our own. Carolyn Bennett will give a mini-lecture on the life and times of John Lennon to be followed by a group-centered discussion. The discussion will start off seeking answers to two "critical" questions of the Sixties & Seventies: "Who was your favorite Beatle?" & "Where were you when you heard that John Lennon had been shot?" These questions will be asked as "ice breakers" to a discussion of the varying philosophies of the individual Beatles and the death of the Sixties. Carolyn offers her credentials for giving this lecture as having attended the original Woodstock at age 18, having lived through the assassinations of John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X and John Lennon, the moon landing, Viet Nam, and bagism for peace. In addition, she has an MA in English Literature and John Lennon was her favorite Beatle. The movie Imagine will be shown in bookstore following the discussion. Imagine is a 1971-produced and 1972-released movie by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, filmed primarily at their Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot, England in 1971. All the songs from Lennon's Imagine album of the same name appear on the soundtrack (106 min.).
