Close Encounters with MusicRetreat for Young Musicians with Yehuda HananiDates: August 31-September 8, 2010
Visit, audit, or drop in on the immersive 8-day retreat for outstanding and highly motivated young musicians, with a rigorous schedule of private coachings, public master classes and chamber music performance opportunities. Cello and chamber music repertoire will be approached with allusions to literature, mythology, philosophy, art, nature and life -- combining a scholarly and a passionately personal relationship with the music. For audience members --musicians and non-musicians alike -- the week-long residency will provide opportunities to meet and exchange ideas about the process, practice and purpose of art. Master Class and PerformanceSaturday, Sept. 4, 12:30-2:30 Pianist Pavel Gintov is currently completing his Doctoral studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. At the age of 6 he started his musical education at Kiev Central Music School and continued at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he was a student of the proclaimed "Godfather of the Russian piano school" Lev Naumov. Gintov has performed with numerous orchestras including the Tokyo Royal Chamber Orchestra, and Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, and he has appeared at Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory and many well-known concert venues. Born in Valencia, Venezuela, Carmine Miranda began his musical studies at the Carabobo State Music Conservatory, graduated from the Private Institute of Musical Education, and studied at the Latin American Academy of Violoncello and the Simon Bolivar Conservatory of Music (the institution that spawned the famous "La Systema"). At the same time he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra and the Orchestra of Beethoven under the direction of maestro Giuseppe Sinoppoli. In the US he has studied with Ross Harbaugh, and currently studies under the direction of Yehuda Hanani at the University Of Cincinnati College Conservatory Of Music. He is a winner of the Alhambra Music Competition and the 08-09 University of Cincinnati Cello Competition. A renowned cellist, Yehuda Hanani's charismatic playing and profound interpretations bring him acclaim and re-engagements across the globe. Critical acclaim for his playing is extensive. The San Francisco Chronicle says: "In this era of the cello, Hanani is among the best. His Bach was absorbing, imaginative, beautiful in all respects."
