Born in Germany in 1940, Waltrud Maassmann emigrated to the U.S. in 1954 at age 13. During the late fifties, she pursued a career, fell in love and was married. In 1967 she and her family bought a small family resort in the Northern Catskill Mountains. Her book chronicles her heartbreaking childhood years spent in an environment of a country in ruins and devastation through education, immigration, career, love, marriage, motherhood, grandchildren, happiness, sadness, frustration, determination and life.
