Quadricentennial Event

Caroline Crane, author of "Murder and Mayhem in the Catskills," They have been found buried under the soft green trees of the Catskills and churning in the shimmering waters of the regions lakes. They have been spoken of in hushed tones, as if their ghosts could be waiting around the corner. But it is their stories that fascinate, and author Caroline Crane has routed out the odd, scandalous, and even sad stories of the bodies that have been found, and that may still remain buried in the heart of the Catskills. Discussing everything from bad blood between neighbors and dangerous superstitions to the formation of the notorious gangster group known as Murder, Inc., Crane brings these stories to life as she reveals the area's surprising connections to some of America's most infamous criminals and the mayhem hidden in the dark corners of the Catskills.

Though mostly a fiction writer, Caroline Crane has always had an interest in history, especially interesting history. At Bennington College she majored in drama and Russian history (as well as Russian language). At the age of not quite two, she spent a summer in the Catskills and has been living there full time for the past nine years. Previous publications include 13 suspense novels for Dodd, Mead, three romantic suspense novels for Avalon, one under a pen name for Walker, and six young adult novels for Doubleday, David McKay, and Random House.
