Author John Mordock has been fly fishing since his youth, schooled by his father, uncle and grandfather. While John can't claim he was a writer before he was a fisherman, he was a writer before he published his first fishing book. John has been a member of the Catskill Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited since the early 1970s and feels privileged to have "rubbed shoulders" with a number of fly fishing icons, including Art Flick, West Drake, J. Michael Migel, and Ray Smith. John has fished in the Catskills for over 35 years and he relates his experiences on its waters in his guidebook, A Fly-fisherman's Guide to Catskill Coldwater Streams and Ponds: Their Histories, Their Fish, and Techniques to Catch Them, published in 2008, an outgrowth of his chapters on Catskill rivers in his earlier book, Northeast Trout, Salmon and Steelhead Streams: Every River Has a Story.
