National Dance Institute

Jacques D’Amboise, Artistic Director and NDI have received many awards including the National Medal of Arts, the Dance Magazine Award and the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Art and Culture of NY State.

National Dance Institute (NDI) transforms the lives of over 35,000 New York City public school children and their families each year through its award-winning arts education programs.  Under the artistic direction of Ellen Weinstein and a staff of professional dancer/choreographers and musician/composers, NDI strives to reach every child, transcending barriers of language, culture, and physical challenges.  Since it was founded in 1976 by New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d’Amboise, NDI and its affiliates have impacted the lives of over 2 million children.  In 2007, NDI brought nine children from Bali, Indonesia and nine children from NYC to Hunter to perform at the grand opening of the Doctorow Center for the Arts.  In 2008, NDI plans a two-week dance residency in Hunter working with children in the area.   The residency will culminate in a performance featuring NDI’s Celebration Team of young dancers and youth from the mountain top and surrounding area.

This event is funded in part by the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation
