Be It Ever So Humble...: The Paintings of Robert CepaleDate: November 26, 2011-January 8, 2012
"Be It Ever So Humble..." this warm and welcoming phrase evoking the nostalgic yearning for yesteryear will be even more poignantly felt this holiday season in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene when selected works of Mountaintop artist Robert Cepale take center stage at the Kaaterskill Fine Arts Gallery's 2011 Holiday Show. This exhibit features a major collection of Robert's work. While scenes of local towns interpreted in the singular inimitable 19th century style of this Windham artist never fail to charm the heart, during this particular holiday season viewers are all the more warmly invited to come and enjoy a respite from the recent stresses experienced. Come and accept the gentle visual tour of the artist's richly and beautifully illustrated contemplation of rural life in the Catskills during the 1800's. Robert, a graduate of Pratt, gives us a gift of landscapes that are painterly, heart-felt and deceptively simple. He unerringly guides viewers through a world of visual wonderment with deep gratitude and joy for our rich American heritage: the sagacity and simplicity of times gone by. All are invited to partake of this redeeming holiday show at the gallery, which also displays crafts by local artists and a new feature entitled "The Hudson River Tradition", an area devoted to works honoring this early-American genre.
