The Kaaterskill Fine Arts Gallery is proud to announce the opening of its holiday exhibition: Home for the Holidays: a Fiber Revolution. While "revolution" is a word not usually associated with holidays, this exhibition combines the ideas of home and hearth with cutting-edge fiber design and art. Fiber Revolution is a network of professional textile artists combining their knowledge and expertise to bring awareness of their art to various far-flung communities. Since 2003 they have exhibited as a group in more than 10 states plus Botswana in Africa and St. Petersburg in Russia. This is their first exhibition in the Catskill Region.

Fiber Revolution's goal is to provide greater visibility for their work while educating the public about fiber as an exciting art form. Although the art is constructed from fabric, it is not meant to lie at the foot of the bed, but rather to hang on the wall like an oil or watercolor painting. The artists use fiber as their medium -- dyeing it, painting it, cutting it, tearing it, stamping it, fusing it and embellishing it. The final step, stitching through the layers of fabric, brings a dimensional depth to the artwork that mere paint cannot. These are definitely not your granny's quilts!
