Art Talk with Mary Ann Glass

Listed by author Patricia Schultz as among the 1000 Places to See Before You Die, El Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St James, is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in Europe. It is one of only three pilgrimage routes recognized by the Catholic Church on which a plenary indulgence can be earned - the other routes are to Rome and to Jerusalem. Beginning in the Middle Ages, the route has been highly traveled. Mary Ann traveled on the last 150 kilometers, from O Cebreiro to Santiago. "Before starting out, I really wanted to know what the trail itself looked like, but all the sites I googled gave little or no indication. So I photographed the trail from 3 - 8 times an hour. And my photos captured for me not only what trail looks like but also brings back for me the visceral experience of a landscape that one only gets on foot." The Camino is a very personal experience and the photos Mary Ann took are intimate stories of her discoveries.
