Paintings By George A. Peterson George says, "I paint cows because I grew up on dairy farm. And I paint cows in series because I find that their bulky mass lends itself to experimentation with color combinations and infinite variations in color and texture. But true to my roots as an 'objective' painter, I do try to capture the essence of the cow personality in each of my paintings. The same can be said for my paintings of black bears, which I also paint in series. These massive animals are frequent summer visitors to the blue-berry-laden meadow behind my Catskill studio. I apply the same painting principles and methods to my paintings of the human figure. I often paint series of seated figures. One of my goals is to create paintings which have an atmosphere—one which the viewer can feel....a small world in effect....a mysterious one....one open to many interpretations, but one whose meaning remains illusive."
