The Exchange (Formerly Jean Cocteau Repertory)JumpNew York's best new idea. Saturday, May 26, 8:00 p.m. After their sold-out performance of George Bernard Shaw's Candida, Manhattan's Jean Cocteau Repertory will be back at the Catskill Mountain Foundation for its sixth consecutive season, with a twist. Founded in 1971 by Off-Broadway pioneer Eve Adamson, the Cocteau will be taking a bold step forward by taking a strict turn back to its core values. This new venture, re-titled The Exchange, will embrace its storied past by presenting re-mixed interpretations of classic texts, and set off in exciting new directions by producing new works by emerging artists from diverse genres. On May 26, 2007, The Exchange will tour a new comedy to Hunter, Irish playwright Lisa McGee's Jump, fresh off the heels of its American premiere on Off Broadway's Theater Row. Set on New Year's Eve in Belfast, the play charts the misadventures of seven desperate people whose unrelated lives collide at the stroke of midnight. Weeks later, in June, The Exchange will be back to present staged readings of classic one-acts, including France's master of satire, Molière, re-envisioned by some of today's most promising up and- coming playwrights. Starting in 2008, the company will be in-residence at CMF's new Orpheum Performing Arts Center. This event is funded in part by the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation.
