New York Gilbert & Sullivan PlayersThe Mikado & Other WorksNot actually a Japanese opera. Saturday, March 3, 8:00 p.m.
"All the Gilbertian sense of humor you'd want...plenty of vitality and frequent gleeful surprise...lovely voices and winning personalities." Acclaimed for their signature styleof seamlessly fusing a contemporary sensibility with a traditional respect for light opera, the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players are peerless in their skillful interpretation of the masterworks of G & S. This spring, the Players will be returning to Hunter to perform the audience favorite, The Mikado. Set in the courtyard of Ko Ko's palace in the Far Eastern land of Titipu, this hilarious operetta has been made famous by such well-known gems as "Three Little Maids From School," "Miya Sama," which Puccini later incorporated into his score for Madame Butterfly, and "Alone, and Yet Alive." This event is funded in part by the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation.
